Tip: Best for Esri MapServer (vector data), ImageServer, Token FeatureServer, WMS, WMTS
Important: Aerial Imagery published to MapServer is not supported.
ArcMap
ArcMap 10.6 Before and After: GDA2020 basemap (blue line) with GDA94 Imagery and WGS84 Cadastre Address
Info: Esri support for GDA2020 has been progressively added (ArcGIS 10.5 and ArcGIS Pro 2.0 onwards). ArcGIS 10.6.1 and ArcGIS Pro 2.2 include GDA2020 as a coordinate system and support GDA2020 NTv2 grid files out of the box, but you need to download and install the files.
The below example is using ArcMap 10.6. Esri ArcMap 10.6+ supports on the fly (OTF) transformation for Esri MapServer (vector data), ImageServer, Token FeatureServer, WMS, WMTS from WGS84 to GDA2020 using the composite transformation method, WGS84>GDA94>GDA2020.
- Starting with a basemap CRS of GDA2020
- Add SLIP rest service from the Esri Catalog
- Select Transformations when prompted by the Geographic Coordinates System Warning
- Select Convert from GCS_WGS_1984 into GDA2020 using the composite transformation method
Info: GDA_1994_to_GDA2020_1 conformal transformation EPSG:8048 is available by default. If required additional GDA2020 NTv2 grid files can be download and installed, see the Esri FAQ: What do I need to know about GDA2020 and ArcGIS?
Tip: For data over the Indian Ocean Territories of Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands use GDA_1994_to_GDA2020_1
Important: Aerial imagery layers such as Locate (MapServer) are not reprojected when using this method. Use the GDA94 ImageServer instead - Locate (ImageServer).
