Info: This article is intended for data creators and publishers using the data.wa.gov.au geospatial Data Upload Tool (DUT) to publish data. If you have decided not to use the DUT please refer to the articles Publishing a dataset and Preparing data for publishing for guidance on preparing and publishing datasets on data.wa.gov.au.
It’s assumed you’ve read the first article in this series, An introduction for geospatial data publishers. If not please check it out before continuing.
Uploading your data to data.wa.gov.au is a joint effort between you, as publisher and owner of the data, and Landgate, as custodian of the data.wa.gov.au platform. The team has worked to make the process as easy as possible. Data management principles ensure the data is available for use safely and responsibly. It is also well-described so it can be used effectively and appropriately.
The platform
As geospatial data publishers you’ll become familiar with two parts of the data.wa.gov.au platform:
- The data catalogue: data.wa.gov.au. This is the front door to the world and the place where users of data discover data across WA Government. You are responsible for creating metadata records here.
- The geospatial data upload tool: slip.wa.gov.au. This is where you define how your data should be published and presented, and where you upload it and keep your data up-to-date.
Creating your accounts
You will need to create two accounts to begin publishing data. One with the data catalogue and another for the Data Upload Tool.
Data catalogue
- Navigate to https://catalogue.data.wa.gov.au/user/register.
- Fill out your username (e.g. “fisheries-gis”), full name (e.g. “Fisheries GIS Team”), email, and password to create your account.
Data Upload Tool
- Navigate to https://img.slip.wa.gov.au and select Register now.
- Fill out the account registration form and register your account.
Request publishing permissions
With your accounts created in both systems, you need to request a higher level of access to be able to publish data on data.wa.gov.au.
Before proceeding, please ensure you have appropriate permission from your organisation to publish on their behalf. Publisher accounts are reviewed periodically to ensure appropriate access to publish on data.wa.gov.au is maintained.
Please complete the following template email, and send it to info@data.wa.gov.au.
