Sometimes you’ll be prompted to log into SLIP when you try to access data. Depending on how the publisher has secured the data, you may also need to be a member of a SLIP user group.
When do I need to join a user group?
You'll need to join a SLIP user group if the data you're accessing:
Checklist
- Is made available through the Shared Location Information Platform (SLIP).
- Has an access category of Fees Apply, Restricted or Government Use Only.
If you’re accessing Open – Login data through SLIP, all you need to do is create a free SLIP login. For more information on the different access categories, see Understanding access to data.
Organisation user groups
To access Fees Apply data—such as Landgate’s SLIP subscription services—you’ll need to join your organisation’s user group. If you work for a government agency, your agency’s user group may also grant access to certain Government Use Only datasets.
Help: If you’re not sure what your organisation is subscribed to, please contact BusinessSolutions@landgate.wa.gov.au or phone (08) 9273 7683 for assistance.
Restricted services user groups
For Restricted data, and some Government Use Only datasets, there’ll be a restricted services user group to join. This data usually has strict requirements around who can access it, so it’s recommended that you contact the data publisher to discuss your eligibility. The Request access button in the dataset’s Access & Use Information is an easy way to make contact, and (if approved) the data publisher will let you know which user group to join.
Joining a SLIP user group
If you haven't done so yet, you'll need to create a SLIP login.
1Login to your SLIP profile. Select Join a User Group.
2In the Search Access bar, enter the name of the user group you want to join. Select the magnifying glass 🔍 or press Enter.
3Select the checkmark ✔ beside the user group you want to join—the checkmark will turn green. Select the checkmark again to undo.
Warning: Some user groups have similar names. Check the name and description carefully to make sure you’re joining the right one.
4Select Review. If you’ve selected a user group by accident, you can clear it by selecting the cross ✖ beside the user group.
Info: If required, you can set start and end dates by selecting the calendar 📆 or enter a comment by selecting the speech bubble 💬
5Select Submit.
Time: You’ll receive an email confirming that your request was submitted. Once the group owner has reviewed your request, you’ll receive an email letting you know whether it was accepted or denied.
